The controller worked before but I have not used it in some time and now it is not even registering? Is this a security issue? or just that apple no longer supports the controller. The logitech website was not much help and the spec sheet now says that it only works on windows and does not list any mac OS X at all. Any help out there?

The Logitech controller I have, is the simpler digital Dpad which works fine.The Logitech dual action gamepad is also supported by linux, and hence by wine,but I don't have one of those -- what I do have, is a hacked xbox 360 controller,which is pretty much the same thing...and it works fine as well...
Yeah, I have a MAC here but don't have a gamepad for it. I use a gamepad only on my XBox and don't have a USB cord or receiver to put it on the Mac to try but it SHOULD work natively on the Mac as a HID device.
Someone mentioned controllermate as good solution. I have Logitech Dual Action and I use gamepad companion but unfortunatelythe developer did not respond to my emails and seems to have stop support for it. Although you can still download, install and use it.
The Input System supports the Standard Gamepad mapping as specified in the W3C Gamepad Specification. It also supports gamepads and joysticks that the browser surfaces without a mapping, but this support is generally limited to detecting the axes and buttons which are present, without any context as to what they mean. This means gamepads and joysticks are generally only useful when the user manually remaps them. The Input System reports these Devices as generic Joysticks.
Support varies between browsers, Devices, and operating systems, and further differs for different browser versions, so it's not feasible to provide an up-to-date compatibility list. Simple. All you have to do is restart you entire computer (not just your virtual machine), then you unplug your gamepad, plug it back in, and it should recognize it. (if not, try checking to see if the USB is dirty on the inside or something)
The Steam Controller automatically emulates an XInput gampad (XBox 360) on Windows, OSX, and Linux and is supported as an XInput gamepad. No direct support of the controller's special features is available at this time.
